The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have unveiled their squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. Opening batter Sanju Samson has marked his return to the team after being rested for the Zimbabwe tour.
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has also been picked after missing the recent Test series against Sri Lanka due to an injury. However, his availability will be subject to fitness clearance. Bumrah last featured in the ODI series against England before a knee injury ruled him out of the third match at Lord's. If declared fit, Bumrah will be playing his first T20I since the World Cup final in Ahmedabad earlier this year.
Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy have also marked their returns, but their availability also depends on fitness clearance. Sundar also played in the England ODI series before a right hamstring injury ruled him out, while Nitish Kumar Reddy has been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru after suffering a left quadriceps injury.
Hardik Pandya remains notable absentee
Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh and all-rounder Axar Patel are also back in the squad after being rested for the Zimbabwe tour. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya remained a notable absentee as he continues his recovery from injury. The three-match T20I series begins on September 13, with all matches scheduled to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
