Javed Miandad and Moin Khan voice concern over Imran Khan's deteriorating health

Former Pakistan captains Javed Miandad and Moin Khan have voiced their concerns over Imran Khan's deteriorating health in prison and have called for appropriate medical treatment for him.

Miandad, who played alongside Imran for decades, teared up while sharing his concern for him and requested the government to treat him with dignity.

"I pray that what's going on with him gets resolved, because he does not deserve this," Miandad said in a heartfelt interview on the Narratives podcast, recorded last week. "What's being done to him is not right. It's unnecessary. He has a family too.

"I think about it all the time, what he must be doing [in prison], what he must be thinking of. We were so close. We used to be together and think so much of each other. We took Pakistan to such new heights. I can't help but feel so sad about it."

Miandad and Imran played a pivotal role in taking Pakistan cricket to great heights during the 1980s and 1990s and were the pillars of the team's historic ODI World Cup triumph in 1992. Speculations ran rife that the duo constantly had differences of opinion, leading to tension simmering in the dressing room. However, Miandad contradicted the claim and said they had great camaraderie.

"There was no rivalry between me and Imran. There was no fight between us. I've never complained that Imran wronged me in any way. I had a great career which I am very thankful for. Imran and I played county cricket together too; we were together for more than half the year, either in county cricket or with Pakistan. We had a great time together," Miandad added.

Former skipper and wicketkeeper‑batter Moin also shared a video, appealing "to the government of Pakistan that Imran be granted his rights as a former Prime Minister and citizen of Pakistan with regards to his treatment." He also urged the cricketing fraternity in the country to be vocal about the former prime minister.

"Imran Khan is very unwell," Moin said in his video. "I appeal to the government of Pakistan that Imran be granted his rights as a former Prime Minister and citizen of Pakistan with regards to his treatment. I also appeal to all Pakistan cricketers to raise their voice in support of Imran. Those of us who played with him learned a lot from him, and he gave Pakistan cricket so much."
