Slow left‑arm orthodox bowler Jayden Lennox produced a career‑best spell of 5/19 to inspire New Zealand to a five‑wicket win over West Indies in the second ODI, levelling the five‑match series 1‑1 on July 13 at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
Expecting the surface to assist spin, captain Mitchell Santner opted for three spin‑bowling options and chose to bowl first. The Windies began brightly, with openers Ackeem Auguste (18 off 27) and John Campbell (43 off 41) adding 63 runs. They looked comfortable against Kiwi quicks Matthew Fisher and Jacob Duffy, but the introduction of spin flipped the script.
Michael Bracewell broke the opening stand by dismissing Auguste, triggering a dramatic collapse. The hosts lost all 10 wickets for just 75 runs, bowled out for 138. Santner, Bracewell, and Lennox combined for nine wickets, the most by New Zealand spinners in an ODI innings, surpassing their previous record of seven against Bangladesh in Mirpur on September 23, 2023.

Campbell, the top‑scorer, was undone by a Santner delivery that kept low and shattered his off‑stump. Previous match hero Keacy Carty also fell to Santner, beaten by sharp turn. Only Amir Jangoo managed to reach double figures, grinding 24 off 41 before Bracewell trapped him lbw.
Bracewell finished with 2/51 at 5.66 economy, Santner with 2/21, while Lennox claimed the big scalps of Shai Hope, Sherfane Rutherford, Gudakesh Motie, Matthew Forde, and Vitel Lawes to seal Player of the Match honours.
In reply, New Zealand started steadily with Henry Nicholls and Will Young adding 35 for the first wicket. But at 52/3, the chase looked shaky. It took composed batting from Daryl Mitchell (28 off 43) and Tom Latham (37 off 59)* to steady the innings. Mitchell fell stumped to Khary Pierre, who also dismissed Dean Foxcroft for a duck, reducing the visitors to 96/5 in 22.3 overs. Latham, however, held firm, guiding New Zealand home in 32.4 overs.
