Former New Zealand cricketers Martin Guptill and Andre Adams will join interim New Zealand women's head coach Dean Brownlie as support staff for the upcoming T20I series in Australia. Guptill will fill in for Craig McMillan, who is recovering after back surgery, as specialist batting and fielding support.
On the other hand, Andre Adams will serve as Assistant coach to Brownlie, who returns to the national women's setup, having been with the team previously in 2017 and 2023. Recently, Adams also coached Birmingham Phoenix in the women's Hundred.
Guptill expressed his excitement at joining the White Ferns support staff and supporting players’ growth.
"I'm really excited to be joining the White Ferns and looking forward to working with such a talented group of players. The White Ferns have achieved a huge amount in recent years and there's a lot of exciting talent coming through. If I can help add a few extra tools to the players' games and support their growth, then that's something I'll be really proud of," Guptill said in a statement by New Zealand Cricket (NZC).
Andre Adams, who has represented New Zealand in 47 matches, said that he’s elated to be back with the team.
“It's great to be back involved with the White Ferns. Having worked with the team before I know what a special environment it is and how much pride the players and staff take in representing New Zealand. Opportunities like this are exciting because you get to test yourselves against one of the best teams in the world, and we're looking forward to taking that head on together,” said Adams.
T20I series begins on October 18
Brownlie was appointed as the interim head coach after Ben Sawyer left the position in September following a review process of the New Zealand Cricket women's high-performance structure.
New Zealand squad will leave for Australia on October 12 and will play a warm-up game against a Governor-General's XI on October 25. The three-match T20I series begins on October 18, followed by the remaining two T20Is set to be played on October 20 and October 22, all at North Sydney Oval.
