The T20 format is a fickle one in which maintaining momentum in a match is no mean task, let alone in a series of games. Remarkably, there are teams who have achieved long winning streaks not just in bilateral series but also in the World Cups. As a matter of fact, achieving it in the latter becomes a much significant feat as the conditions are generally unfamiliar, the pressure is high, and the margins are razor-thin.
Winning streaks require a number of aspects to click together over a period of time and so they define eras of dominance. Therefore, the ability to adapt to new conditions, new opponents in every next match as opposed to the same one in bilaterals, and handling mounting pressures separate the great teams from the good.

So, let us now look at the teams who have won the most number of consecutive matches in T20 World Cups.
Top three teams who have won the most number of matches in a row in T20 World Cups -
3. South Africa - Eight (2024)
At number three are South Africa who won eight matches in a row in the 2024 edition. The Proteas, who were pooled in Group D, began their campaign with a thumping win against Sri Lanka and followed it up with another convincing victory against their then-new nemesis the Netherlands.
However, Bangladesh and Nepal almost pulled off wins in the South Africans' last two league matches, with the margins being four runs and one run, respectively. The Proteas entered the Super Eights where the competition heated up further as they had to toil to win against all their three opponents - USA, England, and the West Indies.
The semi-final against Afghanistan produced another thumping victory as the Atalans were bowled out for a mere 56 runs. It looked like the Proteas would eradicate the 'C' word once and for all from everyone's minds in the final, but unfortunately they lost a match that they should have won. And so their winning streak came to an end in the final against India.
2. Australia - Eight (2022 - 2024)
Australia also won eight consecutive matches, but across two editions. Their winning streak started with a comfortable victory against Sri Lanka in their second group fixture in 2022. The next match against England, however, was a washout at the MCG. Hence, the remaining two fixtures became must-wins for the team and they did win against Ireland (by 42 runs) and Afghanistan (by four runs). Despite that, the home team failed to qualify for the semi-finals as they finished third due to an adverse NRR.
Australia continued their streak in the Americas in 2024, beginning their group-stage campaign with easy wins against Oman, England, and Namibia. Their last group-stage match was a tense affair though as Scotland made them work hard for their seventh consecutive T20 World Cup win.
In their first Super Eights encounter, Bangladesh put up a subpar total which the Aussies overcame quickly on DLS method. But the streak came to an end against Afghanistan in the next match when the Atalans bowled the Australians out for 127 to win the game by 21 runs.
1. India - Nine* (2024 - Present)
Currently, India hold the record for the most number of consecutive victories (9) in T20 World Cups. Their winning streak started in the 2024 edition with their first match against Ireland in which the opposition was bowled out for 96. The second match was a high-voltage encounter against the arch-rivals Pakistan which the Indians turned it around towards the end to win by six runs.
The USA provided some fight, but India were too good for them ultimately. The last group-stage match against Canada, however, was washed out. Nevertheless, India finished on top of Group A. The Men in Blue had a couple of comfortable wins at the start of the Super Eights against Afghanistan and Bangladesh, respectively. Australia proved to be a tougher opponent, but still India managed to win fairly comfortably.
India's semi-final opponents were England whose chase was thrown awry by India's spinners, leading them to a big win by 68 runs. The final against South Africa was easily the toughest contest for the team in the tournament. After being almost on the verge of defeat at the start of the last four overs, India made a dramatic comeback to win the match by seven runs thereby winning their second T20 World Cup title.
The winning streak extended to the 2026 edition at home and with a hard-fought victory against USA in Mumbai in their first group-stage match, the Indians created a new record of nine T20 WC wins on the trot.
