Spinner Nahida Akter has been named Bangladesh’s new T20I captain, replacing Nigar Sultana. She has been given an initial one-year term, and the ICC Women's Emerging Nations Trophy 2026 in November will be her first assignment.
Akter is Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is, having scalped 132 wickets at an impressive average of 17.38, including career-best figures of 5 for 8. She has also taken 81 wickets in ODIs. Since making her international debut in September 2015, she has established herself as one of the few consistent performers in the Bangladesh women’s team.
Nigar Sultana stepped down as captain after the team’s recent struggles in the Asia Cup and Asian Games. She led the team in 82 matches and guided them to 32 victories.
Meanwhile, middle-order batter Sobhana Mostary has been named Nahida's deputy. Mostary recently struck a historic ODI century against Australia in Brisbane, becoming the first woman batter from her country to achieve the feat.
