New Zealand stars Mark Chapman and Zak Foulkes have been ruled out of the upcoming five-match T20I series against India, beginning on October 22. Chapman hasn’t recovered from a left-hamstring tear, which he picked up at the European T20 Premier League.
On the other hand, Foulkes injured his right hip flexor during a recent Canterbury training session. Chapman is likely to recover for the upcoming ODI series against India, while Foulkes’ return to action is yet to be determined.
In their place, Josh Clarkson and Blair Tickner have been added to the squad as replacements. New Zealand head coach Rob Walter expressed disappointment at losing both star players ahead of the series.
"I'm gutted for Mark and Zak, and I wish them both a smooth recovery. We're fortunate to be able to lean on the expertise of Josh and Blair. I know they're both very excited to be involved in what's shaping up to be an epic T20 series,” Walter said in a media release.
Rachin Ravindra also ruled out
Earlier, New Zealand lost Rachin Ravindra due to a freak injury ahead of the series after he landed awkwardly on the safety mat while attempting a catch during a promo shoot. Ravindra is also likely to be available for the ODI series.
Adam Milne is all set to play his first T20I in over a year. New Zealand boasts a strong group of fast bowlers alongside Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Jacob Duffy and Tickner, as well as all-rounders Nathan Smith and Clarkson.
The five T20Is will be played from October 22 to November 1, which will be followed by a five-match ODI series to be played from November 4 to 15. The two teams will then play a two-Test series, beginning on November 19.
