Perth Scorchers hammered Sydney Sixers by six wickets to win the BBL 15 final at the Optus Stadium on Sunday and extended their total number of title-winning campaigns to six. English left-arm seamer David Payne and Jhye Richardson set up the win for Scorchers as they combined to dismiss six of the Sixers batters.

The coin fell in favour of the Scorchers skipper, Ashton Turner, and he chose to field first. Richardson struck on his final ball of the first over as he got Daniel Hughes for just 7. Aaron Hardie struck the biggest blow as he pinned Steven Smith (24 off 13) in front of his stumps before he could take the game away from them.

Moises Henriques (24 off 27) and Lachlan Shaw (14 off 12) also got starts, but couldn't turn it into anything substantial as Player of the Match (POTM) Payne (3/18) got rid of them. Joel Davies (19 off 14) was the only other one who showed some fight, but that could only propel Sixers to 132, which was never going to be enough in a high-stakes battle.

Whatever hopes Sixers had of defending their total quickly evaporated after Finn Allen (36 off 22 balls) and Mitchell Marsh (44 off 43) launched an early onslaught and added 80 runs for the opening wicket. While Sixers did get as many as four breakthroughs, the game was already out of their control by then. Josh Inglis scored an unbeaten 29 off 26 balls to steer Scorchers home with 15 balls to spare.

Sean Abbott was the pick of all the Sixers bowlers as he claimed 2/19 in his four overs. Melbourne Stars' Sam Harper was adjudged the Player of the Tournament. He finished as the third-leading run-getter with 381 runs in 11 games at an average of 54.42 and a strike rate of 155.51, including a ton and two fifties.

Harper's teammate Haris Rauf finished as the leading wicket-taker with 20 scalps in 11 games at an economy rate of 8.23.
