Islamabad United completed a hat-trick of victories in the Pakistan Super League 2026 (PSL 2026), beating Lahore Qalandars by nine wickets in Match 16 on Thursday, April 9, at National Stadium, Karachi. After being put in to bat first, Lahore were blown away by Islamabad as Chris Green and other bowlers ran through their batting to skittle them for 100 in 18.3 overs.

In reply, Islamabad completed the run chase in 10.2 overs without breaking a sweat, led by a half-century from Devon Conway. Earlier, Lahore lost Mohammad Naeem (0 off 1) and Abdullah Shafique (10 off 12) inside the powerplay with both falling prey to Imad Wasim (2/13).

Haseebullah Khan’s (19 off 22) struggles after he lost his stumps to Chris Green, while Rubin Herman (4 off 14) was sent on his way back to the pavilion by Shadab Khan (2/18), leaving Lahore on 41/4 in 8.1 overs.

Sikandar Raza (25 off 19) and Asif Ali (15 off 12) tried to inject some impetus back into the innings with their 31-run stand off 23 balls. However, captain Shadab nipped it in the bud, before it became threatening for Islamabad, and Lahore went on to lose the last six wickets for 28 runs.

Richard Gleeson (2/13, 3 overs) and Faheem Ashraf (1/21 in 2.3 overs) were also amongst the wickets for Islamabad. In reply, Islamabad lost Sameer Minhas (5 off 8) cheaply, but an unbeaten 93-run stand off 49 balls for the second wicket between Devon Conway and Mohammad Faiq (34* off 19), helped their team complete the chase without much trouble.

Following their win, Islamabad rose to second spot on the points table with seven points from five games, while Lahore slipped to fifth spot with four points from as many matches.

Player of the Match

Chris Green was adjudged Player of the Match for his three-wicket haul. He first dismissed Haseebullah Khan and later got rid of Ryan Burl and Chris Green to trigger a collapse. His spell proved to be decisive in the game and also proved to be a big turning point.

What did the captains say:

Winning Captain, Shadab Khan (Islamabad United):

Was a complete game for us. The way everyone, especially in the bowling unit performed.. even our fielding was a standout effort. As a captain you try to create energy, especially in the absence of crowds. When you have proven players, you don't judge them by 2-3 innings. Never doubted his ability (Conway). He must've gained confidence the way he batted today on a difficult pitch. I didn't bowl that well today, compared to how well I've been bowling in the past six months. At the end of the day we go by results. If you look at the WC, the result wasn't great but I was happy with the areas I was bowling in. But in this game we go by the results. Want to dedicate this victory to Mir Hamza. The bravery he showed after getting hit by a ball (in training). We were uplifted by the smile he gave yesterday.

Losing Captain, Shaheen Afridi (Lahore Qalandars):

Credit to Islamabad United. They bowled in good areas, fielded well, Shadab took a brilliant catch. They used the wicket well. Our balance will improve once Fakhar is back. With Emon's injury the balance is off. Not sure how serious his injury is. Our batting order was unsettled because of the injury. But it's part of cricket. It's only the start of the tournament.
