Karachi Kings finally ended their five-match losing streak in the Pakistan Super League 2026 (PSL 2026), beating Lahore Qalandars by five wickets in Match 35 on Thursday, April 23 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Batting first, Lahore posted a good score of 199/6 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on half-centuries from Fakhar Zaman (61 off 41) and Abdullah Shafique (62 off 36).

In reply, Karachi chased down the target in 18.4 overs with David Warner leading from the front with an unbeaten half-century, while Moeen Ali (39 off 17) and Khushdil Shah (44* off 14) also made valuable contributions.

Earlier in the day, Lahore lost Mohammad Farooq (18 off 15) as he got run out due to a miscommunication with his opening partner Fakhar Zaman. After his dismissal, Zaman got together with Abdullah Shafique (62* off 36) at the crease as the duo stitched a massive 110-run stand off 62 balls for the second wicket.

The massive partnership was brought to an end by Moeen Ali (2/26), who first dismissed Zaman and later got rid of Charith Asalanka (0 off 3) in his following over. In the end, some lower-order contributions from Sikandar Raza (18* off 12), Daniel Sams (20 off 9) and Shaheen Afridi (10 off 4), propelled Lahore’s total to 199.

In the second innings, Karachi were rocked early by Ubaid Shah and Haris Rauf, as Jason Roy (9 off 5), Reeza Hendricks (10 off 9) and Salman Agha (14 off 15) departed cheaply. However, captain Warner held the innings together with a 58-run stand off 32 balls alongside Moeen Ali.

Seeing Karachi running away with the game, captain Afridi brought back Ubaid Shah, and he responded by dismissing Ali to end the partnership. Azam Khan (14 off 8) also departed shortly after, losing his stumps against Daniel Sams.

Karachi required 54 runs to win off 27 balls when Khushdil Shah joined Warner in the middle. The southpaw went on to play a blinder of a knock (44* off 14) to help his team chase down the target with eight balls to spare.

Following their win, Karachi remained alive in the playoffs race, rising to sixth spot in the PSL 2026 points table, with eight points from nine matches, while Lahore remained on fifth spot with eight points from nine games.

Player of the Match

Khushdil Shah was adjudged Player of the Match for his sensational innings, which turned the game on its head. His late blitzkrieg of 44* (14) helped Lahore chase down 200 comfortably, with eight balls to spare.

Turning Point

Karachi needed 34 runs to win from the last three overs when Khusdil Shah took down Lahore skipper Shaheen Afridi. He hit him for three sixes and a four to get 23 runs from his over. Khushdil almost sealed the deal for his side and brought the equation well under control.

What did the captains say:

Winning Captain, David Warner (Karachi Kings):

That was a great performance from the guys. Up front with the new ball, the first couple of overs were okay. That wicket all around was good with the new ball. Both teams bowled well with it. But all in all, what a fantastic finish. Moeen bhai coming in, and then Khushdil.. we've been speaking to him that your time is going to come where you get that opportunity and today was that. So happy for him. Only happened by chance (him batting through). I was little bit frustrated. Kept on hitting fielders. But that's the game of cricket. I've played a long time. I just know that one guy is going to come in and play that cameo. And that's where last year we were going well. Hopefully this is the right time. We come out here for the next game, win that one and give ourselves a chance. To do that against a world-class bowler is phenomenal. And it just shows you that if you put pressure back on the bowler, no matter who it is, they can succumb to that. That was serious execution at the end there.

Losing Captain, Shaheen Afridi (Lahore Qalandars):

I felt it was a very good total. We bowled very badly towards the end, especially myself. They will play before us, we'll see how it goes.
