Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) have announced a new coaching staff ahead of IPL 2027, as Robin Uthappa, Mitchell McClenaghan, T Dilip and Dhawal Kulkarni have joined the backroom staff.

MI recently let go of Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambrey and Carl Hopkinson from their coaching staff as part of a revamp under the new head coach Kieron Pollard. As per the latest appointments, Robin Uthappa will join the team as Batting Coach, Mitchell McClenaghan as Bowling Coach, T. Dilip as Fielding Coach and Dhawal Kulkarni as Development Bowling Coach.

Notably, Uthappa, McClenaghan and Kulkarni have all played for MI during their IPL careers. Uthappa was a part of Mumbai Indians in 2008 and won two IPL titles in his career, one each with Kolkata Knight Riders (2014) and Chennai Super Kings (2021).

On the other hand, McClenaghan is a four-time IPL champion with Mumbai Indians, having represented the franchise between 2015 and 2020 and played an important role in its title-winning campaigns in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

Meanwhile, T Dilip will join MI after a successful tenure with the India men’s team, where he was part of the coaching setup during India’s triumphs at the 2024 and 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cups as well as the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

Development bowling coach Dhawal Kulkarni is also a two-time IPL champion with Mumbai Indians (2013 and 2020) and has played for eight seasons with the franchise.

He will work alongside the coaching staff during the season and play an important role in developing the team’s bowling talent, particularly young Indian bowlers.

IPL auction to be held on December 16

The entire coaching staff will work together to finalise the franchise’s retention list ahead of the November 15 deadline. The IPL 2027 auction will be held on December 16 in Goa.

MI will look for a fresh start with their new coaching staff, having narrowly avoided a wooden spoon finish in the 2026 season. They finished in second-last (ninth) position with just four wins from 14 matches.
