Star India cricketer Rohit Sharma was conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on Tuesday, June 23. Sharma missed the first investiture ceremony in May due to professional commitments, where India women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur was also honoured with the same award.
However, he finally attended the ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, along with his wife, Ritika Sajdeh. Sharma was bestowed with the fourth-highest civilian award of the country for his invaluable contribution in the field of sports, having taken Indian cricket to new heights.

Alongside him, hockey star Savita Punia also received the Padma Shri, while tennis great Vijay Amritraj was conferred with the Padma Bhushan, during the ceremony.

Rohit Sharma's records in international cricket
Sharma is counted amongst the greatest limited-overs format batters in the world, having several records to his name. The opening batter has a world record three double hundreds in ODIs, and also holds the record for the highest individual score in the format (264). Sharma etched his name in the history books, scoring the most centuries in a single edition of the ODI World Cup (5) in 2019 and even has the most hundreds overall in the tournament (7).
Apart from that, Rohit also has the most sixes to his name in ODIs (363), T20Is (205) and overall in international cricket (653). He’s also the second-highest run scorer in T20Is (4,231 runs) as well as the T20 World Cup (1220 runs). Rohit also scored a joint-record five centuries in T20Is, along with Glenn Maxwell.
Under his captaincy, he took Indian cricket to great heights, guiding them to the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph as well as the Champions Trophy 2025 victory, including a Player of the Match performance in the final in the latter.
He recently became the oldest player to score a half-century in ODIs for India, scoring a brilliant 79 (69) in the third ODI against Afghanistan in Chennai. Sharma will be next seen playing in the three-match ODI series against England in July.
