Legendary South African fast bowler Allan Donald has been appointed as Joburg Super Kings (JSK) bowling coach for SA20 2027. Donald replaces Eric Simons, who has joined the England men’s cricket team's support staff.

He will work alongside Albie Morkel, who has been promoted to head coach of the franchise after Stephen Fleming’s departure. Donald has a wealth of coaching experience, having worked with several international teams, namely Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa and Bangladesh.

Apart from that, he’s also had stints with Warwickshire, Kent, the Mountaineers, Pune Warriors India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

“Joburg Super Kings announce Allan Donald as the team’s Bowling Coach, bringing his wealth of experience and expertise to the squad ahead of the new season. Welcome to the den, Allan Donald!,” Joburg Super Kings made the announcement on their X account.

Meanwhile, former wicketkeeper-batter Pierre de Bruyn will join JSK as their new fielding coach. He will reunite with Morkel as the pair has previously worked together at Titans and Namibia. Apart from him, Evan Speechly will replace Tommy Simsek as the new physiotherapist.

SA20 2027 to begin on January 17

During the recent SA20 auction, JSK got back their former captain, Faf du Plessis, acquiring his services for R 2.7 million and also signed uncapped allrounder Jason Rowles for R 2.9 million.

The fifth season of SA20 will begin on January 17, 2027, in Gqeberha, with the final scheduled on February 21 in Cape Town. Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals will lock horns in the season opener at St George's Park, which will be a rematch of the 2026 season's final.
