The last 24 hours must have felt like an eternity for Shreyas Iyer. He was named India’s new T20I captain following the squad announcements for the upcoming series against Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games later this year.
Fresh from the elevation, Shreyas expressed his emotions after guiding his team, SoBo Mumbai Falcons, to victory over Suryakumar Yadav‑led Triumph Knights MNE in the Mumbai T20 League on Saturday.

“It is a great feeling and also an honour to represent the country at this level and leading them,” said Shreyas after the win. "I am definitely happy with what happened today on the field. I got crucial runs and got the team to victory, so it's like the icing on the cake."
He also thanked his fans for their unwavering support: "Oh, I love the fans, the way they have supported me and the contribution they have shown throughout the years. I think it's tremendous, and I want to shower my love and respect on them," he added.

Stiff challenges await Shreyas Iyer
While Shreyas can take a moment to savour the honour, tougher tests lie ahead. India’s immediate assignment is a two‑match series against Ireland, which shouldn't be much of a brain teaser. But the real challenge will be the five‑match series in England.
Under Harry Brook’s leadership, England are shaping into a formidable T20I unit, and Shreyas will need to marshal his men carefully to overcome them.
That series will be followed by the Asian Games in Japan (September–October), where India will aim to defend their gold medal.
