Gulf Giants (GG) have signed Australia's Simon Helmot as their new head coach for the fifth edition of the International League T20 (ILT20). Helmot has replaced Jonathan Trott, whose stint lasted one season (2025-26). Giants were the winners of the inaugural edition of the ILT20 in 2022/23, under head coach Andy Flower. Giants ended their association with Flower last season and brought in Trott.

Helmot is currently rendering his services as an assistant coach to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He expressed delight at joining the franchise and said, "I’m excited to join Gulf Giants and be part of the next phase of the franchise’s journey in the UAE ILT20.

"My discussions with Mr Pranav Adani [director of the group that owns Gulf Giants]reflected Adani Sportsline’s long-term commitment towards building strong sporting ecosystems, nurturing talent and creating competitive teams. I look forward to working closely with the players and support staff as we build towards a successful season."

Pranav Adani felt that Giants can benefit greatly from Helmot's coaching experience, and the results will reflect on the field in the upcoming season of the ILT20.

"We are pleased to welcome Simon to Gulf Giants and the Adani Sportsline family," said Pranav.

Simon brings deep experience across global franchise cricket, a strong understanding of the T20 ecosystem and a proven ability to build competitive, high-performing teams. His leadership approach and focus on player development align closely with our long-term vision for Gulf Giants, and we look forward to the upcoming season under his guidance."

Helmot is widely renowned for his work with Melbourne Renegades in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL). He joined Renegades as head coach in 2021 and led them to their inaugural title in 2024 with Sophie Molineux at the helm. He re-signed a three-year contract with Renegades following the 2024 season, but quit his contract after just coaching for one more season (2025).
