Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has breathed a huge sigh of relief after escaping sanctions from the International Cricket Council (ICC), despite sweeping administrative changes following the appointment of a government‑backed Transformation Committee.

The ICC board, which met recently in Ahmedabad for its quarterly meeting, discussed the implications of the newly appointed committee now overseeing SLC’s operations. However, the global governing body did not impose any penalties, a decision that has buoyed members of the SLC's Transformation Committee.

“So far what we feel is that no news is good news,” a member of the SLC's Transformation Committee told ESPNcricinfo, reflecting the sense of reprieve within the newly-appointed administration, despite not being invited to attend the ICC meeting in Ahmedabad.

The relief is understandable given the ICC’s history of penalising SLC over government interference. In 2015 and again in 2023, sanctions were imposed, with the latter suspension stripping Sri Lanka of hosting rights for the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2024. The multi-nation tournament was then hastily relocated to South Africa.

In its official release, the ICC confirmed that Deputy Chair Imran Khwaja and BCCI representative Devajit Saikia had visited Sri Lanka to meet the members of the SLC's Transformation Committee and assess ongoing developments.

"In Sri Lanka, ICC Deputy Chair Imran Khwaja and Devajit Saikia (BCCI) have visited and met with relevant stakeholders to assess ongoing developments," read ICC's press release over the matter.

The Transformation Committee was appointed on April 30 amid growing public resentment following Sri Lanka's Super Eight-stage exit from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The committee aims to draft a new constitution "ensuring it serves as a robust, modern foundation for the sport."

Kumar Sangakkara is the most high-profile name in the Transformation Committee, headed by chairman Eran Wickramaratne. Most of the other members have either a background in corporate or law.
