The 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is upon us. The squads have been formed after taking into account a host of aspects and the final list is ready. So who are the best players available? What could be the best possible XI one can form based on individual performances of late, past records, team dynamics, and skill levels? Here is the list of best players assembled from all the squads who can form a mixed best XI of IPL 2026.
Here is the strongest XI of IPL 2026 -
Openers - Sanju Samson, Travis Head
Samson becomes an automatic choice given his current form. The Kerala batter was the Player of the Tournament in the recently concluded T20 World Cup, scoring 321 runs in five innings with three huge fifties in all the three crucial matches. Apart from his recent form, the right-hander has a rich record in the IPL with 26 fifties and three hundreds to his name forming part of his 4704 runs in 172 innings.

Travis Head might not have had a good outing in the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka where the Australians played all their four matches but the southpaw can be a beast on Indian pitches which has been evident in the past on many occasions. Head averages 34.72 in the IPL and scores at a rate of 170 which is a healthy rate in T20s.
Middle Order - Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (WK), Shimron Hetmyer
While it is not easy to insert all the players in a mixed XI as per their batting positions for their franchises, Kohli at number three is not an unusual tactic. The Indian legend can be as destructive at any position in the top four and can fit into the one-down spot in this XI, guiding the innings. Pant is a phenomenal player and the wicketkeeper-batter played a whirlwind 118* in the last league match of IPL 2025. The left-hander cannot be discounted in any format and the INR 27 crore man would be itching to score big this season.
Hetmyer is another destructive batter who can change the complexion of a game in just a few balls. The West Indian recently played a scintillating knock of 85 off 34 balls against Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup and the batter is no stranger to the IPL plaudits.
Lower Order - Hardik Pandya (C), Shivam Dube, Wanindu Hasaranga
Hardik's recent form makes him a must-have in any team. The all-rounder enjoys the captaincy mantle as well and has proven his prowess with the Gujarat Titans in 2022 and 2023. Though the 2024 and 2025 seasons with Mumbai Indians did not go his way the Baroda cricketer cannot be ignored at all.
Dube is an important player in the lower order in T20s. The left-hander can not only play out a few overs and build an innings if needed, but can also power sixes at will in the death. The Mumbai lad is also a handy medium pacer who can pitch in when the team needs a wicket or if a certain other bowler is going for runs. Hasaranga, subject to NOC clearance, would be an ideal all-rounder to have - a leg spinner who is more than handy, a batter who is more than useful for a team to win a match from difficult situations. The Sri Lankan provides a good deal of flexibility as well which allows room for teams to experiment too.
Bowlers - Swapnil Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal
Swapnil Singh might not have numbers to back his position, but the left-arm spinner is very much capable of keeping the run flow tight and providing crucial breakthroughs. The Baroda player has a decent record in all T20s - 83 wickets in 96 matches with an economy rate of 7.35. Bumrah is another automatic choice in any team and the right-armer's early and death overs can break the back of the opposition. Currently, the Mumbai Indians bowler is sixth on the all-time wicket-takers list with 183 wickets from 145 matches.
Another player who is part of the same chart and, in fact tops it, is Yuzvendra Chahal with 221 wickets from 172 innings. The wily leg spinner can be a game-changer and capable of keeping the runs tight in the latter overs. Despite being 35 and out of reckoning for the Indian team, Chahal still has a lot to give to his teams.
