Emerging left-arm wrist spinner Sufyan Moqim and wicketkeeper-batter Usman Khan will be part of the Scorchers’ overseas contingent for the five-team Global Super League. They will be joined by West Indies’ versatile slow left-arm spinning allrounder Akeal Hosein, a familiar face on the global circuit.

Scorchers, invited to the competition as reigning Big Bash League (BBL) champions, will be led by Ashton Turner. Their participation follows the involvement of the Hobart Hurricanes in the previous season.

“This is a bit of a unique opportunity. Once you take it to the players and present them what the opportunity is, all of our guys were keen to play. They’re raring to go,” Western Australia’s general manager of high performance, Kade Harvey, told The West Australian.

“We’ve been able to complement our group, who clearly play the vast majority of their cricket in different conditions to Guyana.”

West Indian Ackeem Auguste, South Africa’s Dian Forrester and New Zealand batter Mark Chapman are the other overseas recruits who will line up for Scorchers in the marquee T20 tournament. Veteran batter D’Arcy Short, 35, who has represented Western Australia but never previously played for Scorchers, will also feature in the squad for the tournament.

Among the familiar names, Ashton Agar, Aaron Hardie and Jhye Richardson will provide continuity and experience. The tournament is set to begin on July 23 and will run until August 1, with Simon Katich stepping in as coach for the Scorchers in place of Adam Voges, who is unavailable due to his commitments with the Trent Rockets in the Hundred.

Joining the Scorchers in this edition are four other teams: Lahore Qalandars (PSL), Guyana Amazon Warriors (CPL), Desert Vipers, and San Francisco Unicorns. Amazon Warriors enter the competition as defending champions, having beaten Rangpur Riders last year, who themselves were winners of the inaugural edition.
