India batter Suryakumar Yadav has given his first reaction after losing his captaincy and being dropped from the T20I squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland, England, as well as the Asian Games 2026. Suryakumar led India to the T20 World Cup 2026 victory on home soil, but now doesn’t fit into the team’s plans as they begin a new cycle in the shortest format.

Following his snub from the Indian team, Suryakumar took to his Instagram account to share his first reaction. The former skipper shared the squad on his Instagram stories and wished the team good luck for their assignments.

“Wishing this highly skilled group all the best for challenges ahead,” Suryakumar wrote on his Instagram story.

Meanwhile, in his place, the selectors have appointed Shreyas Iyer as the new captain of the T20I team. Suryakumar had a stellar captaincy record as under his leadership, the team didn’t lose a single series or tournament.

Suryakumar's illustrious captaincy record

He made his captaincy debut against Australia during a five-match T20I series at home in November-December 2023 and was made the full-time captain following Rohit Sharma’s retirement after the T20 World Cup 2024 victory. He led the team in 52 matches and won 42, losing just eight, while two games ended without a result.

Under his captaincy, India won the Asia Cup 2025 and also successfully defended their T20 World Cup title on home soil, becoming the first team to achieve the feat.

While Suryakumar Yadav continued to guide the team to unprecedented heights, his numbers with the bat diminished. Since July 2024, he’s scored 932 runs from 42 innings at an average of 25.88 and a strike rate of 152.03 with six fifties to his name.

He recently had one of his worst IPL seasons, scoring 270 runs from 13 innings at an average of 20.76 and a strike rate of 147.54, registering just two fifties. Owing to his continuous poor form, he lost his place in the T20I side, ending an illustrious chapter of India’s T20I domination under his leadership.
