South Africa and Pakistan opened their account in ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 while Sri Lanka registered a second consecutive victory.

South Africa crush Tanzania

South Africa batted first in Windhoek against World Cup debutants Tanzania. Jorich van Schalkwyk flew off the blocks quickly, smashing five boundaries in his 47 from 34 balls, while his opening partner Adnaan Lagadien got 32. The highlight of the innings, however, was the ensuing 201-run stand between centurions Jason Rowles and captain Muhammed Bulbulia as they knocked the wind out of the Tanzanian attack.

Bulbulia notched up his ton with a six before perishing for a run-a-ball 108, while Rowles, coming off scoring 98 in South Africa's opener against Afghanistan, continued his rich vein of form, striking 10 fours and five sixes in his 101-ball 125.

Paul James added the final touches with his blazing cameo of (46 off 18), while Lethabo Phahlamohlaka smacked an unbeaten 16 from five as South Africa finished with 397/5, their highest ever total in U19 World Cup history.

Tanzania’s horrendous day extended as Bayanda Majola took two early wickets, while Rowles, not content with his batting display, scalped two wickets and also a run out. Just three batters could manage double figures, with Mohammedi Simba top-scoring with 17. Tanzania were shot out 68 in the 33rd over, losing by a gigantic margin of by 329 runs.

Pakistan triumph against Scotland

Pakistan opted to bowl after winning the toss against Scotland in Harare, and the decision paid off immediately as Ali Raza knocked over Theo Robinson and Max Chaplin in the first over.

Captain Thomas Knight stabilised the innings briefly with his 37, but Momin Qamar (3/46) saw his back to reduce Scotland to 115/6. While the end of their innings felt imminent, Finlay Jones (33) and Manu Saraswat (25) showed resistance in their seventh-wicket partnership of 58. Even that could take Scotland only to 187, as they were bowled out with 11 balls remaining.

In reply, Pakistan lost both openers in quick succession with Ollie Jones (2/41) doing the early damage before Usman Khan and Ahmed Hussain joined forces in a match-defining 111-run stand. Usman amassed a calculatedly aggressive 75 off 85 while Ahmed added a composed 47 off 92.

The duo could not take their team past the line as they were dismissed but captain Farhan Yousaf (18 not out) ensured that there was no mishap as Pakistan reached the target  6.5 overs to spare.

Sri Lanka pip Ireland

Openers Dimantha Mahavithana and Viran Chamuditha, fresh after a record-breaking 328-run stand against Japan on Saturday, fell for single-digit scores against Ireland after Sri Lanka opted to bat first.

However, captain Vimath Dinsara led from the front, hitting six fours and as many sixes before falling five runs short of a well-deserved century (95 off 102). Kavija Gamage proved to be an able ally to his skipper, scoring 49 before being run out, while Chamika Heentigala also made an important contribution through his unbeaten 51 to steer Sri Lanka to 267/5.

Dulnith Sigera (4/19) ripped through the middle order during Sri Lanka’s defence as Wilson (32) and Olly Riley (31 not out) efforts went in vain, with Ireland falling well short, losing by 106 runs after being dismissed for 161.
