UAE were left heartbroken in their ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 clash against USA on Monday, October 5, as the hosts chased down a formidable target of 331 with ease to seal a remarkable victory. After being asked to bat first, UAE made full use of the opportunity and posted an imposing total.
Openers Tanish Suri and wicketkeeper-batter Adeeb Usmani provided a solid start, adding 70 runs in the first 12 overs. Both batters made the most of the powerplay, regularly finding the boundary whenever scoring opportunities arose.
Shubham Ranjane broke the opening partnership by dismissing Usmani off the first ball of the 13th over. Suri remained unfazed by the setback and stitched together an 80-run stand for the second wicket with Muhammad Shahdad. However, Ehsan Adil ended Suri's impressive innings in the 27th over, with the opener departing for a run-a-ball 78.
Shahdad, meanwhile, carried on confidently and brought up his maiden ODI century, ensuring UAE maintained momentum after their strong start. His superb knock featured nine fours and three sixes and came at a strike rate of 106.54.

Harpreet Singh and Sohaib Khan both made useful contributions but failed to convert their starts, scoring 24 runs each. Basil Hameed then provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 24 off just 11 deliveries, smashing three sixes at a strike rate of 218.18 to help UAE finish on 330/8.
Slow left-arm orthodox spinner Harmeet Singh was the standout bowler for USA, returning figures of 4/65 from his 10 overs.
In reply, UAE reduced USA to 60/2 inside the first 10 overs, with Aayan Afzal Khan and Ibrar Ahmad accounting for wicketkeeper-batter Smit Patel and Shehan Jayasuriya respectively. However, just as UAE looked set to tighten their grip on the contest, skipper Monank Patel and Saiteja Mukkamalla combined for a crucial 94-run partnership for the third wicket.
Monank led from the front with a composed 55 off 62 balls, relying heavily on smart running between the wickets. Mukkamalla also reached a half-century, scoring 56 before falling in the 31st over with USA on 172/4 and still requiring 159 runs from a little over 19 overs.
What appeared to be a challenging chase was made to look straightforward by Milind Kumar and Ranjane. The pair shared an unbroken 160-run partnership, guiding USA home with six wickets in hand and seven balls to spare.
Milind registered his fifth ODI century, finishing unbeaten on 116 off 84 deliveries, an innings that included seven fours and five sixes. Ranjane provided excellent support at the other end, remaining not out on 57 from 49 balls, with the all-rounder striking two fours and three sixes as USA completed a memorable run chase.
