Victoria have confirmed Wade Seccombe as their new Head of Male Cricket, with the appointment coming on July 6 following David Hussey’s resignation from the role at the end of May.

Seccombe steps into the role with a wealth of experience. He was most recently the performance manager at Melbourne Renegades, and has previously coached Queensland and Brisbane Heat (BH) in the Big Bash League.

“Wade has made a strong impression through the work he has already done with us at Cricket Victoria, particularly through his contribution to our T20 strategy and recruitment,” Cricket Victoria’s general manager of cricket performance, Graham Manou, said in a press release.

“His performance in that role, combined with his broader experience across Australian Cricket, made him an excellent candidate to lead our male high-performance program.”

Seccombe, who is currently involved in the fourth edition of Major League Cricket (MLC) through an arrangement between Victoria and the San Francisco Unicorns, expressed his gratitude for the new opportunity.

“Cricket Victoria has a proud history and a strong group of players, coaches and staff across the state and Big Bash programs,” said Seccombe. “I’m grateful for the opportunity and looking forward to helping create an environment where players can perform, develop and enjoy representing Victoria.”

At 54, Seccombe brings not only coaching credentials but also the perspective of a former player.

A wicketkeeper-batter in his playing days, he represented Queensland in the domestic circuit, scoring 3,559 runs at an average of 24.54 in 115 first-class matches, including four centuries and 12 fifties. Seccombe played alongside some of the greats of Australian cricket, like Matthew Hayden and Stuart Law among others.

He also featured in 90 List A games, accumulating 955 runs at 21.22 with four fifties. Behind the stumps, he was prolific, claiming 517 catches and 21 stumpings in first-class cricket, along with 128 catches and 26 stumpings in List A matches.
