West Indies announce squad for Pakistan Tests, Joshua Bishop earns maiden call-up

West Indies unveiled their squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan, beginning on Saturday, July 25. Joshua Bishop has received his maiden Test call-up, while Kirk McKenzie earned a Test recall for the first time since 2024.

Bishop is a left-arm orthodox spinner and has earned a call-up after an impressive run in domestic cricket. The 25-year-old has claimed 119 wickets in 25 first-class matches at an average of 23.90 and is the leading wicket-taker across the last three editions of the West Indies Championship with 91 scalps.

On the other hand, left-handed Jamaica batter McKenzie has been drafted into the squad as a replacement for John Campbell, who has been ruled out of the Test series after suffering a left hamstring strain during the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand.

He earned his selection on the basis of rich form in the latest season of the West Indies Championship, where he scored 323 runs in six innings at an average of 64.60. The most notable absentee from the squad was fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who was unavailable for selection due to personal reasons.

Right-arm pacer Anderson Phillip has been left out after featuring in the second Test against Sri Lanka. Phillip returned figures of 1 for 72 and 1 for 27 during the match and was dismissed for a duck.

Both teams struggling in WTC points table

The remainder of the squad remains unchanged, with Jomel Warrican continuing as vice-captain. The two Tests will be played from July 25 to August 6 in Tarouba and Port of Spain. Both teams are reeling at the bottom of the World Test Championship (WTC) points table, with West Indies (eighth) winning one out of ten Tests and Pakistan (ninth) winning one out of four.
