Why isn’t Jasprit Bumrah playing the England-India series decider at Lord’s?

England captain Harry Brook has won the toss and elected to bat first in the ongoing series decider at Lord's. Team India were forced to ring in several changes to their playing XI, which played in the second ODI at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on July 16. 

The most prominent change is the absence of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah was unavailable for selection in the series decider after he sustained an impact on his left knee while fielding during the second one-dayer in Cardiff. The BCCI released an official statement informing that due to reactive swelling, Bumrah was deemed unfit to participate in the Lord's ODI.

"Jasprit Bumrah had an impact injury on his left knee while fielding in the second ODI in Cardiff. He was not available for selection for the third ODI due to reactive swelling in his left knee," said the BCCI in its official statement.

India have brought their left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh in as a replacement for Bumrah. The Men in Blue have also made two more changes to their XI, with KL Rahul coming in for the injured Washington Sundar and Prince Yadav replacing Shivam Dube.

Notably, Rahul was unwell and missed out on selection in Cardiff. For the unversed, Sundar was earlier ruled out of the series decider, having suffered a right hamstring injury in the second ODI, forcing the BCCI to announce Harsh Dubey as his replacement. 

Meanwhile, England made a solitary change to their XI, bringing Josh Tongue in to replace Saqib Mahmood.
