West Indies only have themselves to blame as they finished on the wrong side of the result in the fourth ODI at the Kensington Oval in Barbados by a solitary wicket and lost the series 3-1. Though there's one more game left to be played, it's nothing more than a dead rubber.

Gudakesh Motie's drop of Mark Chapman when the Kiwi was just on 22 hurt the hosts badly as he powered his way to 80 off just 82. However, Windies had another opportunity when New Zealand needed three and Jayden Seales bowled a well-disguised slower ball to force a false shot from the visiting captain Mitchell Santner, which went towards extra cover.

But Ackeem Auguste, who was fielding inside the ring and Justin Greaves, who was at the sweeper cover fence, collided, and the opportunity went begging.

Earlier, Santner won the toss and put Windies into bat. It was again a case of a lacklustre batting display from the hosts as they lost wickets in clusters and were never in control of their innings.

Having lost six of their wickets for just 81 on the board in 20.5 overs, Windies were staring down the barrel when Gudakesh Motie joined Amir Jangoo. The two added 81 runs for the seventh wicket and took their side past 150. Jangoo fell to the young pacer Matt Fisher, who bowled well to record figures of 3/40.

Fisher also removed Motie as Windied folded to 188 in 44.4 overs. Michael Bracewell and Santner claimed two wickets apiece.

In reply, the Kiwi innings also lurched, and the tourists were in trouble at 77/4 inside 17 overs. But the game changed when Bracewell and Chapman added a fifty-plus stand and brought their side to the brink of victory.

But Motie (5/47) kept the Men in Maroon interested right till the end. Chapman's innings stood out as he batted at a strike rate of 97.56, including eight fours and four sixes. Bracewell (32) and Player of the Match (POTM) Santner (34*) provided stability down the order to ensure Chapman's innings didn't go in vain. New Zealand sealed a nervy win with 35 balls to spare.
