England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has been ruled out of her team’s next two fixtures of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 due to a calf strain. Sciver-Brunt suffered the injury while batting during England’s second match of the tournament against Ireland on Tuesday, June 16 at The Rose Bowl, Southampton.
She retired out on 48 (37) in the 16th over of the second innings, with her team ten runs away from victory. Following England’s four-wicket win, Sciver-Brunt revealed that she felt a bit of tightness in her calf and retired herself as a precautionary measure.

However, after undergoing scans and some further assessment by the England medical team, it was found that she has a left calf muscle strain, in a similar location to her recent injury, which pushed her on the sidelines in the build-up to the tournament.
Sciver-Brunt earlier sustained the same injury while playing for The Blaze in the ECB Women’s One Day Cup against Warwickshire and missed the T20I series against New Zealand and India.
As a result, she won’t be available for her team’s upcoming two fixtures against Scotland on June 20 and West Indies on June 24. Sciver-Brunt will remain in the squad and will be continuously monitored and assessed by the England medical team.
Charlotte Dean to lead England
Her absence comes as a major blow to England as the England skipper was in fine form, having scored 94 runs in the two innings, without being dismissed at a strike rate of 159.32. In her absence, vice-captain Charlotte Dean will take up the leadership duties.
Earlier, she also captained England in the T20I series against New Zealand and India ahead of the World Cup.
