Having been handed a shellacking by Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1, Gujarat Titans must regroup and flick the switch as they prepare for a formidable adversary in Qualifier 2 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.

The final is set to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, GT’s home ground, but to exploit that advantage, they must first earn their ticket by neutralising the Rajasthan Royals’ three biggest threats.

Reckidulous Sooryavanshi

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was just one hit away in the Eliminator from shattering Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest hundred in IPL history, but missed by a whisker. What he did achieve was breaking Gayle’s record for the most sixes in a single season.

Gayle’s 59 sixes in 2012 stood as the benchmark until Sooryavanshi smashed 65 this year. The 15‑year‑old leads the run charts with 680 runs at a staggering strike rate of 242.85, making him the only player to score more than 600 runs in a season while striking above 200. GT must stop him early or risk watching their attack ripped apart.

Donovan Ferreira’s finishing prowess

The South African has been the adrenaline shot in RR’s batting this season. Their death‑over hitting hinges almost entirely on Ferreira, who has struck at 168.07 while averaging 31 across 279 runs. His early dismissal in the Eliminator meant RR could not push past 250, underlining his importance. GT must be precise in their planning to remove him before he settles.

Archer’s pace threat

Jofra Archer has rediscovered his rhythm, consistently breaching 150kph and producing match‑defining spells against Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad. His head‑to‑head record against Shubman Gill is particularly telling, dismissing him three times while conceding only 36 runs in five overs. If Archer dismantles GT’s top order, the contest could be over quickly.

Toss dynamics

The toss looms large ahead of Qualifier 2. The match will be played on the same pitch used for the Eliminator, which is bound to deteriorate as the match progresses, making chasing difficult. Both playoff games so far have been won by the side batting first, and historically, 36 of 71 IPL playoff matches have gone to the team setting a target. Batting first could prove decisive once again.

RR’s fortress in New Chandigarh

Rajasthan Royals have never lost at New Chandigarh, riding a four‑match winning streak at the venue. This unbeaten run gives them a psychological edge in a high‑stakes knockout. Titans, by contrast, have won only once in three outings at Mullanpur, a record they must overturn to keep their campaign alive.
