Cricket is considered one of the most rewarding sports in the world, as players have the potential to make a huge amount of money by playing at the highest level. Players earn fat cheques from both their national boards and by playing in franchise T20 leagues around the world.
However, on some occasions, they also get special awards for their stellar performances on the field. Most cricketers are big car aficionados, and they usually get four-wheelers as prize in most tournaments. Here are three cricketers who were gifted cars for their magnificent performances:
1. Sachin Tendulkar
Touted as the greatest batter to have ever played the game, Sachin Tendulkar rose to the higher echelons of the cricketing fraternity with his remarkable consistency on the pitch. During his career, Tendulkar shattered many records to become the most prolific batter in the history of the sport.
Tendulkar’s love for cars is well known, and he was even gifted a 360 Modena Ferrari by FIAT, which manufactured premium Ferraris. Tendulkar received the car as a gift after equalling legendary Sir Don Bradman’s tally of 29 Test centuries. He was presented the car by legendary Formula 1 racer Michael Schumacher and later sold it to a businessman in 2011.
2. Yuvraj Singh
Star India all-rounder was known as the most stylish player of his era, having given several memorable match-winning performances for the team. Yuvraj etched his name in the history books, becoming just the second player to hit six sixes in an over in international cricket, achieving the feat against England’s Stuart Broad during the T20 World Cup 2007. After his achievement, he was gifted a BMW M5 by former IPL Chairman Lalit Modi.
3. Shubman Gill
After failing to leave his mark in his first few outings in ODIs, Shubman Gill earned his Test debut during the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy. He immediately caught attention in his maiden Test series, scoring 259 runs from three matches at an average of 51.80 with two half-centuries to his name. He played a match-winning innings of 91 in the famous fourth Test of the series at Gabba, Brisbane, to help India chase down the target of 328 runs. Following his performance, he was gifted a THAR SUV by Anand Mahindra.
