Match Preview
Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lock horns in the second match of IPL 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, March 29.
After a terrible 2024 season, the Mumbai Indians brought sanity in the 2025 season finishing fourth on the points table. The team succumbed to the Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 which brought another end to their season without a title though. The team, which made winning a habit in the mid and late 2010s, has been struggling to get hold of the silverware since the 2020 season.

Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a dramatic downfall after the title-winning 2024 edition. With the squad reshuffled after the mega auction ahead of IPL 2025, the team failed to click and finished eighth last year. On the eve of their first match this season, they have suffered a few injury blows to their bowlers and the team would have to choose, perhaps their second-choice XI.
As for Mumbai Indians, Jasprit Bumrah has joined the squad after spending a few days at the CoE to manage his workload. Mitchell Santner and Will Jacks are currently unavailable for personal reasons but will join the squad soon.

Players to watch out for in MI vs KKR
Finn Allen (KKR)
The explosive right-hander would be making his debut in the IPL this season. The right-hander is a dangerous customer for the opposition and if he gets going he could win his team the game with ease. Ask South Africa who faced the 26-year-old's onslaught recently in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup wherein the Kiwi scored a magnificent 100* off 33 balls. Allen is in good touch and is expected to come good.
Jasprit Bumrah (MI)
Bumrah, like Allen, is also in good form. The menacing right-arm fast bowler had good outings for India in the T20 World Cup. Notably, the 32-year-old was the POTM in the final for his spell of 4/15. The bowler returns to the Wankhede where he gets a lot of support and the deck also favours the pacers early on. Bumrah can be lethal considering his form and knowledge of the conditions.
