Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lock horns in the third match of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Monday, March 30.
RR had a terrible season last year, finishing at the penultimate spot on the points table with just four wins. The franchise has seen a big-ticket player in Sanju Samson go to their opponent of this match in a trade which saw Ravindra Jadeja return to his first-ever IPL team. Given the form Samson is in right now, RR might be regretting the move.
Nevertheless, they get an experienced all-rounder who has won matches for his teams on several occasions. The squad has seen a couple of exciting additions and it remains to be seen how the Men in Pink go about their season.
CSK were dealt a blow in the lead-up to the first match as their former captain MS Dhoni is likely out of the first two weeks of the competition. Nonetheless, the franchise is looking to the future as well and Dhoni's absence allows them to test out the other prospects. Like Riyan Parag for RR, Ruturaj Gaikwad retains the captaincy for CSK and the right-hander has got an exciting opening partner in Samson which might become one of the dangerous opening pairs of the season.
The CSK squad looks promising but unproven as a unit and therein lies the uncertainty about them. Significantly, the Men in Yellow, who finished at the bottom last year, would be aiming to avoid the wooden spoon this time around.

Sanju Samson (CSK)
Samson is in tremendous form of late. The Kerala batter scored 321 runs in five innings in the T20 World Cup 2026 which included three huge fifties. The Player of the Tournament is expected to shine for his new franchise as well and his team badly needs someone to turn their fortunes around after the horrendous last season.
Ravi Bishnoi (RR)
The 25-year-old is a gun leg spinner who has excelled in the IPL ever since his debut in the 2020 season. Bishnoi has 72 wickets to his name in 77 matches at an average of 31.06 and an economy rate of 8.21. Notably, RR are going to be his third franchise after the right-armer was let go by Lucknow Super Giants.
