3 major records broken during England vs India series

India’s limited-overs format series against England finally ended on Sunday, July 19, with the conclusion of the third ODI at Lord’s. It was a tour to forget for the Men in Blue as they failed to win both the T20I and the ODI leg of the series. India started the tour under the leadership of captain Shreyas Iyer, who saw his team go down 0-4 in the T20I series.

Later, with the return of senior pros in the ODIs, it was expected that India would put up an improved performance. However, they again ended up losing 1-2, bringing an end to their forgettable tour on a really sour note. Amid India’s poor performances, there were some records that were broken during the series. 1. First century at Lord’s

With the noise of his retirement doing rounds in the media, Rohit Sharma decided to silence his critics in the best manner possible. The India opener etched his name in the history books, becoming the first player from his country to score an ODI century at Lord’s. Rohit played a magnificent innings of 138 (110), laced with 17 fours and five sixes.

2. Most runs in series without being dismissed

Star England batter Joe Root was once again the glue that held the England batting together throughout the series. Coming from low scores in the New Zealand Test series, Root made amends against India as he registered the most runs without getting dismissed in an ODI series. Root scored 249 runs at a strike rate of 96.88 and was also adjudged Player of the Series.

3. Youngest debutant for India

After a long wait, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi finally got a chance to make his debut for India during the second T20I at Old Trafford, Manchester. He became the country's youngest-ever debutant in international cricket at the age of 15 years and 99 days. Sooryavanshi broke legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar's record, who made his debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days against Pakistan in November, 1989.
