Rashid Khan is arguably one of the greatest T20 bowlers ever. A crafty spinner with an innate ability to outfox batters with his quick-arm action and clever variations, Rashid has left an indelible mark on the global franchise cricket circuit, including the Indian Premier League.
Born to a Pashtun family in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar village, Rashid spent his early life in a refugee camp in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Peshawar, Pakistan, during the Afghan War. He developed a passion for cricket after watching Shahid Afridi and modelled himself on his idol's quick-arm action, working hard to develop variations.

A few months after his 17th birthday, Rashid got the opportunity to represent his country, making his ODI debut in October 2015 against Zimbabwe. He made his T20Il debut against the same team later that month.
In 2017, Rashid became the first Afghan player to play in the IPL, making his debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). In January 2018, Rashid's status as a global superstar was cemented when he became Afghanistan's first IPL millionaire after SRH reclaimed him at auction for INR 9 crore.
In 2018, ICC named him the Associate Cricketer of the Year. He holds the record for being the youngest player to become the No. 1 bowler in both ICC ODI and T20I Rankings.
At the IPL, Rashid built an identity as SRH’s lead spinner, picking up 93 wickets at an economy rate of 6.33 in five seasons he played with the franchise. Rashid was released ahead of IPL 2022 and moved to the new franchise Gujarat Titans, playing a pivotal role in their title-winning season. He bettered his form in IPL 2023 in Titans' runners-up finish, ending the season as the second-highest wicket-taker with 27 scalps to his name, including a hat-trick.
Rashid witnessed a dip in his form in 2024, managing only 10 wickets in 12 matches, and that slowdown extended in 2025, when he finished the season with nine wickets in 15 matches at an economy of 9.35 – the highest for him in any season.
