Shreyas Iyer Captaincy Record for India in T20Is

Shreyas Iyer's journey to India's T20I captaincy came after years of perseverance and hard work. The Mumbai batter had to establish his leadership credentials at the IPL level before being entrusted with one of Indian cricket's most coveted roles.

Iyer first grabbed attention when he guided Delhi Capitals (DC) to their maiden IPL final in 2020. Although Delhi put up a spirited fight, they fell short against Mumbai Indians (MI), losing by five wickets.

His leadership potential convinced Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to invest heavily in him at the 2022 IPL auction, where they secured his services for INR 12.25 crore. Iyer repaid that faith by leading KKR to their third IPL title in 2024, sealing an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final.

Following his success with KKR, Iyer moved to Punjab Kings (PBKS) and made an immediate impact. He led the franchise to the IPL 2025 final, where they narrowly lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by six runs.

Iyer's leadership success was not limited to the IPL. He also captained Mumbai to their second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title, guiding them to a five-wicket win over Madhya Pradesh (MP) in the 2024 final at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
