India star batter Abhishek Sharma has been hospitalised due to a stomach infection in New Delhi and is a doubtful starter for the game against Namibia on Thursday, February 12. In fact, the left-hander is said to have been admitted to a hospital for the last couple of days.

The 25-year-old played with a stomach infection against the USA in the first match as well and did not field during the opposition's chase. The Punjab batter, incidentally, did not have a good outing as he was caught in the deep cover region off his first ball.

"Abhishek has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi due to stomach infection. Some tests are being done to ascertain the problem. It is still not clear whether he will be discharged today. But match against Namibia looks doubtful as of now," a BCCI source said to PTI.

Who would replace Abhishek if he doesn't play?

Sanju Samson looks like a certainty to replace Abhishek if the left-hander is unavailable for the Namibia game. The Kerala batter, who was not part of the opening game, had a series of low scores against New Zealand prior to the T20 World Cup. The right-hander could only muster 46 runs from five innings which also included a duck. Despite his form, Samson is the only option India have.

In other team news, Jasprit Bumrah is set to play the Namibia game after being rested against the USA due to a minor illness. The pacer trained on Tuesday and did not show any signs of restrain, indicating full fitness.

Meanwhile, Washington Sundar has joined the squad after recovering from a side strain which the all-rounder suffered during the first ODI against New Zealand on January 11. Sundar, too, took part in the training session in which he completed both bowling and batting drills.

The game against Namibia starts at 7pm local time at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
