Bangladesh bowlers have put their side in a very commanding position at the end of day two in the ongoing second Test in Sylhet. Having safely negotiated a tricky little period late on day one, the Pakistan openers were expected to make hay on day two, but that didn't go as planned.

Both Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal were back in the hutch at the end of 10 overs with just 23 runs on the board as Taskin Ahmed made an immediate impact. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was then quick to realise that he needed to bring in Mehidy Hasan Miraz with left-hander Shan Masood in the middle, and the tactic paid dividends.

Mehidy first dismissed the Pakistan captain and then accounted for Saud Shakeel to put the visitors under a tremendous amount of pressure at 79/4. However, Babar Azam then joined hands with Salman Ali Agha and added 63 for the fifth wicket to weather the storm.

Babar played a few delectable strokes, standing tall and caressing the ball on the off-side, using the depth of the crease against the left-arm off-spin of Taijul Islam and late cutting past point, among a few. His success in finding the boundaries at regular intervals lifted a lot of pressure from Agha (21 off 51), who found it quite difficult to manoeuvre the field.

Babar's wicket came against the run of play when he flicked an over-pitched ball, directed towards his pads, to Mushfiqur Rahim at square mid-on. He was done by a slight change in pace from Nahid Rana and committed himself quite early into the shot, failing to keep it to the ground.

Babar's wicket swung the momentum back in favour of the hosts as Taijul Islam utilised his match-up beautifully and dismissed Agha, Mohammad Rizwan and Hasan Ali in a span of 13 overs.

Sajid Khan (38 off 28) tried to counterattack by playing a few shots but ran out of partners and was the last wicket to fall as Pakistan got bowled out for 232.

Mahmudul-Mominul partnership puts Bangladesh ahead

Buoyed by a valuable 46-run lead, Bangladesh opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy (52 off 64) came out with aggressive intent and kept dealing in boundaries despite losing his opening partner Tanzid Hasan in just the fourth over.

He stitched a 76-run stand for the second wicket with Mominul Haque and played with great authority. But just when it looked as though the day was going to entirely belong to the Bangla Tigers, Mohammad Abbas and Khurram Shahzad struck timely to dismiss both Joy and Mominul, respectively.

Mominul's wicket brought an end to the day's play with Bangladesh on 110/3. They lead by 156 runs already. With Shanto (13*) in the middle and plenty of batting to come, they are likely to run away with the game on day three, unless Pakistan pull off a miracle.
