Shreyas Iyer added yet another feather to his illustrious cap when he became only the fifth player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to captain in 100 or more matches. Fondly known as Sarpanch, Iyer scaled the milestone in match 61 of the ongoing edition against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on May 17.
He now stands alongside MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, and Virat Kohli, the only other captains to have crossed the 100‑match mark in the IPL.

1. MS Dhoni
Dhoni set the benchmark with 61 wins in his first 100 games, losing only 38 with one no result. His win percentage of 61% remains the best among the elite five, underscoring his unmatched consistency.
2. Rohit Sharma
Taking charge of Mumbai Indians after Ricky Ponting stepped down, Rohit won 58 of his first 100 matches. His win percentage stood at 58%, placing him second on the list.
3. Gautam Gambhir
The architect of KKR’s twin titles in 2012 and 2014, Gambhir also finished his first 100 games with a 58% win rate, cementing his reputation as one of the IPL’s most iconic leaders.
4. Shreyas Iyer
Iyer’s 100th game ended in defeat against RCB, but his overall record remains impressive: 56 wins, 41 losses, and 3 no results. His win percentage at the milestone is 56%, with a loss rate of 41%.
5. Virat Kohli
The former RCB skipper sits at the bottom of this elite list. Kohli managed 45 wins and 52 losses in his first 100 games, giving him a win percentage of 45%.
At the 100‑match mark, Dhoni’s dominance remains unmatched, Rohit and Gambhir share equal footing, Iyer has carved a respectable niche, and Kohli’s record reflects the challenges of leading RCB.
Together, they form the five pillars of IPL captaincy history, each leaving a distinct legacy in the league’s narrative.
