Chennai Super Kings' hopes of securing a playoff berth in IPL 2026 have taken a major hit as their overseas allrounder Jamie Overton is returning to the UK for the assessment of a right thigh injury. Overton's injury has come at the worst possible moment for Chennai.
The seam-bowling allrounder delivered a Player of the Match (POTM) performance against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), claiming figures of 3/36 in four overs, while giving away 9.00 runs per over. His three-for included the big wickets of Rishabh Pant and Josh Inglis. Inglis (85 off 33) was threatening to take the match away from CSK's grasp, but Overton's timely introduction into the attack put an end to his stay in the middle.

CSK made the announcement of Overton's return to the UK on social media but didn't specify an expected time period for his return or whether he was ruled out for the remainder of the tournament. Notably, CSK have three more games left and a win in each of those will ensure them a playoff berth. If they lose one and win two of the remaining three, then that will put them at the mercy of other teams.
CSK's next game is against LSG at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday, May 15. The five-time IPL champions will then host Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 18 before flying to Ahmedabad for an away game against Gujarat Titans on May 21. They have added Karnataka's emerging allrounder Macneil Noronha as the injury replacement for Ramakrishna Ghosh.
