The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to suspend Cricket Canada from ICC membership with immediate effect for breaching its membership obligations. The decision was taken at the ICC Board meetings in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
However, Canadian national representative teams will remain eligible to participate in ICC events during the suspension period. The decision has been made to safeguard the interests of Canadian players and ensure that they’re not disadvantaged by the governance issues affecting the national governing body.

Cricket Canada will be further permitted to access ICC funding through a controlled funding mechanism to support their continued participation and development of the national teams. The funding will be administered under the supervision of ICC management, solely for approved national team programmes.
ICC will also provide Cricket Canada with a set of reinstatement conditions aimed at addressing the governance and administrative issues identified by the Board. Progress against these conditions will be monitored by the ICC Normalisation Committee, supported by ICC management. Reinstatement of membership will be subject to the Board being satisfied that all conditions have been fully met.
ICC Board members to visit Bangladesh
Meanwhile, two ICC Board representatives, Dr Mohammed Moosaje (Cricket South Africa) and Tavengwa Mukuhlani (Zimbabwe Cricket), are also scheduled to visit Bangladesh to engage with stakeholders regarding the situation in the country, including the BCB electoral process. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will elect a new president during the elections set to be held on June 7.
The ICC Board also approved a recommendation to organise a Global Qualifier for ICC Men’s T20 World Cups. The management will finalise a competition structure and qualification pathway for a 16-team Global Qualifier, which will be presented to the relevant committees for consideration at the next round of ICC meetings.
