Player of the Match
Jamie Overton was adjudged Player of the Match for registering brilliant bowling figures of 3/36 in four overs. He got the big scalps of Josh Inglis and Rishabh Pant, dismissing them both in the tenth over to trigger a collapse. He further got rid of Akshat Raghuwanshi to put the brakes on LSG’s scoring rate.
Turning Point
Urvil Patel walked in at number three with CSK on 45/1 after 3.4 overs. He blew away LSG bowlers with his breathtaking innings and stitched a blistering 81-run stand off 34 balls with Ruturaj Gaikwad for the second wicket. The duo brought the required run rate down to 7.31, giving a perfect platform for the remaining batters to chase down the target.
What did the captains say:
Winning Captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings):
We started off really well in the powerplay. It's important that we got the job done. Hats off to Josh, he played some amazing shots, we had no answers against him. After the timeout, Sanju said that we have to find a way. They were very much ahead after the powerplay. Noor and Jamie bowled really well. We knew it was a good wicket. It was a great effort. 220-230 would have been par. Some of our guys need the break. It's humid, it's tough. We worked on quite a few areas during the break. Still three games to go, it's about keeping things simple. That's our mantra.
Losing Captain, Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants):
Definitely, it was a great game. Everything was coming nicely, we knew they'd put us under pressure, as that's how it happens in Chennai. In T20s, fielding standards has to be there, to many dropped catches. Urvil played a fantastic unbelievable knock, like Inglis for us. We knew someone had to take the attack, Inglis for us, Urvil for them. But we kept fighting and had our chances. The way we started, we wanted more, but we knew close to 200-210 was good. It was easy to bat at the start and then it became difficult. That thought did occur (on bolwing Shahbaz in the 20th over), but they had two left-handed batters and Markram had done the job before.
