Delhi Capitals’ (DC) managed to stay alive in the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) playoffs race with a five-wicket victory against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 62 on Sunday, May 17 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. After being put in to bat first, Rajasthan Royals were restricted to 193/8 in their allotted 20 overs, despite a flying start to their innings.
Dhruv Jurel (53 off 40), Riyan Parag (51 off 26) and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (46 off 21) emerged as top scorers for RR. However, Mitchell Starc triggered a dramatic collapse for Rajasthan with his four-wicket haul, while Madhav Tiwari (2/27) and Lungi Ngidi (2/24) scalped two wickets each.

In reply, DC chased down the target in 19.2 overs, riding on half-centuries from KL Rahul and Abhishek Porel (51 off 31). The duo stitched a massive 105-run stand off 61 balls for the first wicket to set up a perfect platform for the run chase. After their dismissals, Axar Patel (34* off 18) and Ashutosh Sharma (18* off 5) got DC over the line in the last over.
Meanwhile, following their win, DC rose to the seventh spot on the IPL 2026 points table with 12 points from 13 matches. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals slipped to sixth spot with 12 points from as many games.

Player of the Match
Mitchell Starc was adjudged Player of the Match for his four-wicket haul as he ran through Rajasthan Royals’ middle order to trigger a collapse. He finished with figures of 4/40 in four overs to help DC claw their way back into the game.
Turning Point
Rajasthan were cruising after 14.1 overs, being on 161/2 with a well-set Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel at the crease. However, Mitchell Starc turned the game on its head with his triple-wicket over. He got rid of Parag, Donovan Ferreira (0 off 1) and Ravi Singh (4 off 2) to leave them on 166/5 after 15 overs.
What did the captains say:
Winning Captain, Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals):
It's obviously a good feeling to win at home. Winning the final home game feels special. In the matches we lost, we lost wickets in cluster. We ensured that that didn't happen today. We bowled really well in the middle overs to make a comeback. The last 6 overs, it was class bowling. The bowling unit refused to give up.
Losing Captain, Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals):
(where did you lose it?) "Pretty much everything, actually. We were in a pretty good space after 14 overs. After I got out, we didn't capitalise on that. It was... It had to be 220-230, something like that. And as far as the bowling is concerned, I think we were just weren't there. We weren't up to the mark. Ferreira wasn't a gamble. I know on TV it looks like a gamble, but then you've got two left-handers. I'd rather bowl Donovan, take a chance, than get Shanaka to bowl another over. Didn't really work out. (on the fielding) Very poor. I feel if you want to win a trophy, if you want to be contending every single year, you've got to be better than what we've done today. Extremely disappointed. I feel we are a way better team than what we've played or shown in the last 4-5 games. But today was just, I feel... After coming from a break, I feel what we've shown today, energy-wise, skill-wise, execution-wise, is definitely not up to the mark. And if we keep on playing like this, we shouldn't be in contention for the top 4. (still in contention if you win your last two games) Yeah, I think that's depending on a lot of other teams as well. That is not how I like to lead. That is not how I like to speak to my team as well. That, oh, we need these guys to keep on losing so we can win two games. We've had the opportunity, we've not taken it. So if we do not qualify, it's our fault. No-one else's. And yeah, next two games, we'll see what we can do better and hopefully get two wins."
