Gujarat Titans (GT) handed Punjab Kings (PBKS) their second successive loss of the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026), beating them by four wickets on Sunday, May 3, at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. After being put in to bat first, Punjab were restricted to 163/9 in their allotted 20 overs as Jason Holder ran through their batting line-up.
PBKS were reduced to 47/5 after 8.4 overs, before a 79-run stand off 44 balls between Suryansh Shedge and Marcus Stoinis (40 off 31) helped them cross the 160-run mark. In reply, Sai Sudharsan (57 off 41) anchored the chase for Gujarat with his brilliant half-century.

Washington Sundar (40* off 23) and Jos Buttler (26 off 22) also made valuable contributions as GT completed the run chase in 19.5 overs. Arshdeep Singh (2/24) and Vijaykumar Vyshak (2/31) scalped two wickets each for Punjab.
Meanwhile, following their win, Gujarat maintained fifth position in the IPL 2026 points table with 12 points from ten games, while Punjab maintained top spot with 13 points from nine matches.

Player of the Match
Jason Holder was awarded his second successive Player of the Match award for his brilliant bowling display. He got big scalps of Shreyas Iyer, Nehal Wadhera, Marcus Stoinis and Xavier Bartlett to register figures of 4/24 in four overs.
Turning Point
GT pacers were all over Punjab's famed batting line-up, right from the word go, as Mohammed Siraj (2/28) removed Priyansh Arya (2 off 2) and Cooper Connolly (0 off 1) in the very first over. Later, Kagiso Rabada (2/22) removed Prabhsimran Singh, while Holder got rid of Iyer and Wadhera to leave PBKS reeling at 47/5. The visitors couldn't really recover from the early blow and had to settle for a below-par score.
What did the captains say:
Winning Captain, Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans):
I think in chases like these, we would have liked to not take it as deep as it went but two crucial points. This is not the kind of wicket where we'll chase in 15-16 overs. So we thought maybe one over before or a couple of overs before. That was the talk. If someone is set they should go deep because it's not easy to hit from ball 1. Length balls weren't coming the way they do on other wickets. It was important for the batsman who is set.. luckily we had Washi and he finished the game for us. Just sent the best batter that we thought in that situation (about sending left-handers one after the other).
Losing Captain, Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings):
I personally feel it was a great score on a wicket where the ball was doing a bit at the start, especially the new ball. Their bowlers made the best use of the surface - the way they were hitting the lengths and the deck. It was right at the stumps and not giving us much options to open our arms and score runs. We lost four wickets I assume in the powerplay. To get to 160 from there was a phenomenal effort. With the new ball I thought we would be able to hit our line and length and get early wickets. But that didn't work out. But the way we fought till the end, kudos to the efforts. The attitude and approach was excellent. We missed out on hitting the hard lengths. Hitting over midwicket or pull shot wasn't easy on this wicket because there was variable bounce. Wasn't an apt wicket to bat on. In terms of execution we fell a bit short. We're still on top of the table which is what matters. We'll take positives from this game. It's a great challenge going forward in the IPL (playing on such pitches) because it tends to bring up the attitude of the bowlers as well. It can level up their confidence, especially after being hit for 50-60 odd runs in the previous game and then coming here and bowling excellent overs. We wanted to win but it didn't click. Excited for the opportunity (playing against SRH), want to get that two points. Have been working very hard in training. The boys have been putting in hard yards. That's what matters - what you do off the field. If the character is high and attitude is right, you'll get results eventually. Just got to stick to our basics and routines and not think too much ahead.
