Rajasthan Royals (RR) bounced back on the winning track in the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026), beating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 40 runs in Match 32 on Wednesday, April 22, at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
After being put in to bat first, Rajasthan were restricted to 159/6 in their allotted 20 overs as Mohammed Shami (2/30), Prince Yadav (2/29) and Mohsin Khan (2/17) took two wickets each. In reply, Lucknow were bundled out for 119 in 18 overs, with the pace troika of Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger (2/27) and Brijesh Sharma (2/18), running through their batting.

Earlier in the day, Yashasvi Jaiswal (22 off 12) got Rajasthan off to a brisk start, but his innings was cut short by Mohammed Shami, who also dismissed Dhruv Jurel for a golden duck. To add to Rajasthan’s misery, Mohsin Khan removed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (8 off 11) cheaply as they were left reeling at 32/3 in four overs.
Skipper Riyan Parag (20 off 19) and Shimron Hetmyer (22 off 18) tried to stabilise the innings with their run-a-ball 30-run stand. However, Prince Yadav and Mohsin Khan ripped the rescue act in the bud, dismissing both players.
With Rajasthan reeling at 77/5 in 10.2 overs, the experienced hand of Ravindra Jadeja (43* off 29), along with Donovan Ferreira (20 off 19) and Shubham Dubey (19* off 11) guided them to a respectable score of 159/6.
In reply, Lucknow were rocked early as Ayush Badoni got run out in the very first over for a golden duck. Nandre Burger (2/27) and Jofra Archer piled on the misery, removing Rishabh Pant (0 off 3) and Aiden Markram (0 off 6) for ducks to leave LSG on 11/3 in 2.5 overs.
With his team in disarray, Mitchell Marsh held one end, stitching crucial stands with Nicholas Pooran (22 off 25) and Himmat Singh (15 off 15) to keep his side in the hunt. He brought up his half-century off 39 balls and seemed determined to take LSG over the line.
However, two balls later, he holed out to extra cover against Nandre Burger. After Marsh returned to the pavilion, LSG’s lower order couldn’t survive against Brijesh Sharma (2/18, 3 overs) and Jofra Archer and got bundled out for 119.
Following their win, LSG rose to the second spot on the IPL points table with ten points from seven matches, while LSG slipped to ninth spot (second last) with four points from seven games.

Turning Point
LSG were rocked inside the powerplay, as Ayush Badoni got run out due to a miscommunication, while Nandre Burger removed captain Rishabh Pant for a duck. Aiden Markram also fell prey to Jofra Archer as LSG were left reeling at 11/3 in 2.5 overs. The hosts could never recover after a horrendous start and eventually lost the match.
What did the captains say:
Winning Captain, Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals):
Very pleased. We were really short with the bat. 180 would have been a really good score. It's because of the wickets. We'll be a team that adapts. (On Jofra Archer and Burger) I am blessed, it's commendable. We knew it would swing, the lines and lengths they bowled, impressive. Everyone has been very supportive. I thank them for that. If I go in and play another game, I'll do what the team needs.
Losing Captain, Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants):
I think it is difficult to explain. Like it's definitely our batting is letting us down, but at the same time, we are disappointed as a team, as a group, but at the same time, you've got to keep finding ways. You have to look for answers inside, not outside, but that's how it is as of now. See, definitely we could have taken some time while batting and at the same time, you know, not making any excuse out there, like, you know, including myself in that, like we could have taken it a little deeper because I think the bowlers did a fantastic job, especially after the last game. As a batting group, we need to put our hand up and try to finish that job for the bowlers also. There is still a lot we want to look at the positive side, you know. We all know it's disappointing for us as a team, but you know, we have to keep our head high and look for answers inside and we surely know that we have enough firepower in our bowling and batting and we can still turn it around. That's what I believe in.
