South Africa and Delhi Capitals (DC) fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is available for their next fixture of the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday, May 5, at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Ngidi suffered a serious head injury while fielding against Punjab Kings (PBKS) during Match 35 at the same venue.

The fast bowler fell awkwardly on his head while trying to take a catch running backwards from mid-off, and hit the turf hard, twisting his neck in the process. He was immediately rushed to the hospital as the ambulance had to be brought onto the field of play to carry him.

Much to everyone’s relief, Ngidi became stable the same day and was subsequently released from the hospital. He’s now been declared 100% fit to play, revealed Delhi Capitals bowling coach Munaf Patel. The concussion guidelines required Ngidi to take a six-day break according to safety regulations.

“Lungi and all bowlers are 100 percent fit. He did not play the last two games because of the six-day criteria, but he is fully fit now,” said Patel in the pre-match press conference.

DC placed seventh on points table

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals ended their three-match losing streak, beating Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the previous fixture. Pursuing a massive target of 226, Pathum Nissanka (62 off 33) and KL Rahul (75 off 40) guided DC to their highest successful run chase in IPL history.

Following their seven-wicket victory, DC are placed seventh on the IPL 2026 points table with four wins from nine matches, having eight points to their name. The Axar Patel-led side was beaten by CSK earlier in the tournament and will be eyeing a sweet revenge in the upcoming fixture at their home ground.
