Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 59 of the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
Since it was the first offence of the season for LSG under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Pant was fined INR 12 lakhs. During the match, LSG beat CSK by seven wickets to register their fourth victory of the season.

Batting first, CSK posted a good score of 187/5 in their allotted 20 overs, courtesy of a brilliant innings from Kartik Sharma (71 off 42). In reply, LSG chased down the target in just 16.4 overs as Mitchell Marsh played a breathtaking innings of 90 (38).

Apart from him, Akash Maharaj Singh also shone with a three-wicket haul, playing his first game of the season. He registered figures of 3/26 in four overs and dismantled CSK’s top order.
It was a rare victory for LSG in the ongoing season, who’re reeling at the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table with eight points from 12 matches. Lucknow will next take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Tuesday, May 19 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
CSK's playoffs chances dented
Meanwhile, following their crushing defeat against LSG, CSK’s playoffs chances have taken a massive hit. The Ruturaj Gaikwad now needs to win both their remaining fixtures to finish on 16 points.
Even then, they will have to hope Punjab Kings (PBKS) lose at least one of their two remaining matches, and Rajasthan Royals (RR) suffer at least two defeats in their last three outings. Hence, CSK’s road to the playoffs is now full of several hurdles, dependent on the results of several other fixtures.
