Delhi Capitals ended their three-match losing streak in the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) with a seven-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 43 on Friday, May 1 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. After opting to bat first, Rajasthan posted a humongous score of 225/6 in their allotted 20 overs with captain Riyan Parag leading from the front through his blistering innings.

Apart from him, Dhruv Jurel (42 off 30) and Donovan Ferreira (47* off 14) also made valuable contributions. In reply, DC chased down the target in 19.1 overs, riding on half-centuries from Pathum Nissanka (62 off 33) and KL Rahul (75 off 40). As a result, Delhi completed their highest successful run chase in IPL history.

Earlier in the day, Rajasthan got off to a miserable start as both openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal (6 off 3) and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (4 off 2) were dismissed cheaply, leaving RR on 12/2 in 1.5 overs. After early blows, captain Riyan Parag stitched a massive 102-run stand off 59 balls with Dhruv Jurel (42 off 30).

Parag brought up his fifty off 32 balls and pressed on the accelerator after reaching the milestone. He further got good support from Ravindra Jadeja (20 off 14), with the duo adding 53 runs for the fourth wicket off 28 balls.

Parag missed out on his maiden IPL century as he fell prey to Mitchell Starc. In the end, a blitzkrieg from Donovan Ferreira (47* off 14), helped Rajasthan cross the 220-run mark.

In reply, DC got off to a great start to the chase with KL Rahul (75 off 40) and Pathum Nissanka (62 off 33) adding 110 runs for the first wicket off 57 balls. Ravindra Jadeja got the first success for Rajasthan, trapping Nissanka in front of the stumps.

Following his dismissal, more carnage followed for the hosts as Nitish Rana (33 off 17) came out batting in top gear. A 61-run stand off just 30 balls for the second wicket between him and Rahul brought DC in the driver’s seat. In the end, Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma completed the chase without much trouble.

Meanwhile, following their victory, DC rose to sixth spot in the IPL 2026 points table with four wins from nine matches, having eight points. On the other hand, RR maintained fourth spot with six wins from ten games, having 12 points.

Player of the Match

KL Rahul was adjudged Player of the Match for his magnificent innings of 75 (40), laced with six fours and five sixes. He stitched a big opening stand with Pathum Nissanka to set a good platform for DC in the massive run chase.

Turning Point

Following KL Rahul’s departure in the 16th over, DC required 49 runs to win from 28 balls. Another wicket there could’ve shifted the balance in Rajasthan’s favour. However, an unbeaten 49-run stand off 23 balls between Tristan Stubbs (18* off 11) and Ashutosh Sharma (25* off 15), got DC over the line without much trouble.

What did the captains say:

Winning Captain, Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals):

Even in the last interview, I have kept telling you have to keep doing the right things, happy with the way the boys played. We executed our plans and as a captain I can't be happier, in the powerplay you take the game away from them then it makes me happy. He is a legend, after three months he's playing and to put in such a performance, shows why he's such a great player. I was playing as a leader in the Indian team, the decision making is something you have to work on and the coaches helped me as well. It is fine, icing has been done. Sorry for your loss and I would like to dedicate this win to the Delhi fans.

Losing Captain, Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals):

I think it was a good score. I thought 200 was a par score here. It was going to slow down a bit, but I think we could have bowled way better in the middle overs, not let them get away a little too much. And then a lot of boundaries in one single over and that repeated. So I felt we missed the trick with that, but no harm with the decision we made. (on the decision to not promote Ferraira) It was actually a lefty idea and I don't know actually. There were what, six, seven overs to go, or no, eight, nine overs to go? We wanted to delay it slightly, score about 8 or 9 runs off the spinners and then face pace bowling from ball one. I feel that was the plan, nothing much to think about that. (On his injury) Hopefully it's not too serious, but a little bit on the hamstring. Thankfully, we have about a week break, so we'll clear it out. (On his batting) I don't think I need to answer any critics or anyone talking about it. But at the end of the day, my job is to get two points. So my score and my innings don't really matter if we lose the game.
