Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) hammered Delhi Capitals (DC) by 47 runs in Match 31 of the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) on Tuesday, April 21 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. After opting to bat first, SRH posted a humongous score of 242/2 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on a breathtaking century from Abhishek Sharma.

In reply, DC could only reach 195/9 in their 20 overs with Nitish Rana (57 off 30) being the lone half centurion. Earlier, SRH once again got off to a sensational start as Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head (37 off 26) added 97 runs for the first wicket off 53 balls.

Sharma brought up his half-century from 25 balls, while Head played second fiddle to him, before being holed out to deep mid-wicket.

However, Abhishek showed no signs of slowing down, slamming a 47-ball century, while adding another 79 runs off just 35 balls with Ishan Kishan (25 off 13). After Kishan got run out at the non-striker’s end in the most unfortunate manner, Heinrich Klaasen (37* off 13) gave the perfect finish to SRH’s innings, alongside Abhishek, to propel their score past 240.

In reply, Delhi lost Pathum Nissanka (8 off 6) cheaply, who hit Dilshan Madushanka straight to Liam Livingstone at mid-off. After the early blow, KL Rahul (37 off 23) and Nitish Rana (57 off 30) stitched an 86-run stand off 45 balls for the second wicket.

However, the duo failed to keep up with the required rate, getting dismissed in successive overs against Sakib Hussain and Eshan Malinga, who turned the game on its head. The speedster dismissed Rana and David Miller off successive deliveries and further got rid of a well-set Tristan Stubbs (27 off 16) and Ashutosh Sharma (14 off 10) to stall DC's chase.

Malinga's spell ensured that DC weren't allowed to run away with the game and secured a massive win for his side, while registering his best IPL figures. Following their win, they rose to the third spot on the IPL points table with eight points from seven matches, while DC are on the fifth spot with six points from as many games.

Player of the Match

Abhishek Sharma was adjudged Player of the Match for his breathtaking century. He once again led the charge for SRH, going berserk from the word go and stitched crucial stands with Travis Head, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen.

Turning Point

Abhishek Sharma was batting on 49 when he worked Axar Patel on the leg side to take a couple of runs on the first ball of the ninth over. However, he was running towards the danger end as the throw came towards wicketkeeper KL Rahul, who failed to collect the ball and took the bails off with just his gloves. Had Rahul collected the ball cleanly and inflicted the run out, Abhishek would’ve been dismissed on 49.

What did the captains say:

Winning Captain, Ishan Kishan (Sunrisers Hyderabad):

What do I say right now with the way Abhishek batted and how Klaasen finished it off. All the credit goes to Abhishek I feel. The discussion is to take it match by match, everyone likes to hit in our team, we have to understand the conditions, we don't have a plan behind it, but just watch the ball and play accordingly. I just wanted the ratio of balls and runs to get as far as possible, whenever I get Harsh on he will deliver, he is smart - that worked out. Not so much, I just enjoy.

Losing Captain, Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals):

The run-out and the catch we missed - had we taken it, we could have restricted them (on the chances missed against Abhishek Sharma). But yes, if someone bats that well, and their execution is not lacking, credit must be given for such a performance. Considering the way Klaasen also batted from the other side, it’s not the bowler’s fault. When a batsman bats like this, the coach and the captain must accept that even a captain cannot stop someone. I was telling the bowlers the same thing — that if you executed well, and after that he still hit a good shot, then you cannot do anything. You know, you have to move on. The fielding area is in your hands. Catching and run-outs - those you can do. And you know, at such times, supporting the bowler is very important. So I think that is where we could have done better. No, right now it doesn’t feel like that, because the kind of cricket that is going on — if you see, obviously we are batting well and bowling well. It feels like, I think you know, when the wicket is so good, then this should be considered an off day and forgotten.
