IPL 2026: Why is Riyan Parag not playing today’s match against Lucknow Super Giants?

Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Riyan Parag isn’t playing Match 64 of the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday, May 19, at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. In his place, Yashasvi Jaiswal filled in as captain for the second time in the ongoing season.

The stand-in skipper revealed that Parag suffered a hamstring injury, which ruled him out of the fixture. Jaiswal earlier captained Rajasthan during Match 52 of the season against Gujarat Titans (GT), where RR lost by 77 runs.

“(On being the captain) it means a lot to me, and it’s proud always to represent the Rajasthan Royals franchise. (on Riyan Parag) He had some hamstring injury, and he'll be fine soon, I hope so. So, he's not playing this game. We have three changes. Sandy, Sushant Mishra and Lhuan-dre Pretorious come in,” said Jaiswal at the toss.

Rajasthan made three changes to their team for the must-win fixture as Sandeep Sharma, Sushant Mishra and Lhuan-dre Pretorious were brought in, while Adam Milne and Ravi Singh were rested. However, Ravindra Jadeja continued to miss out as he’s recovering from niggles.

“Nothing much at the moment. Jaddu bhai is recovering. He has some niggles, but he'll be fine soon,” Jaiswal added.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan are in a must-win situation, being placed fifth on the IPL 2026 points table with six wins from 12 matches. They need to win both of their remaining fixtures to qualify for the playoffs. On the other hand, LSG are reeling at the bottom of the table with eight points from 12 games.

Having already been knocked out of the playoffs, the Rishabh Pant-led side will look to avoid the wooden spoon finish.
