Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have handed over the leadership of the limited-overs formats to Kusal Mendis for the upcoming multi-format tour of West Indies. On the other hand, Dhananjaya de Silva will continue to lead the team in Tests. Mendis takes over ODI captaincy from Charith Asalanka, while he succeeds Dasun Shanaka in T20Is, who led the team until the recent T20 World Cup 2026 on home soil.
Kamindu Mendis will serve as Kusal’s deputy in the 50-over format. Shanaka retained his place in the 16-member T20I squad, but Charith Asalanka missed out on selection. The tour will also mark the return of wrist-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who’s been named in both ODIs and T20Is, having recovered from a hamstring injury he suffered during the T20 World Cup.

Hasaranga has been out of action since February and even missed the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) as he was expected to play for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Sri Lanka’s tour to West Indies will commence on June 3 with a three-match ODI series, followed by a T20I series of as many games.
