Gujarat Titans (GT) have climbed to the top of the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) points table after their record-breaking victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 56. Defending a modest score of 168, Gujarat skittled SRH for their lowest-ever score in IPL (86) and registered their biggest victory (in terms of runs), winning by 82 runs.
Kagiso Rabada took home the Player of the Match honour for breaking the back of SRH’s batting inside the powerplay, registering figures of 3/28 in four overs. However, another person did his job silently, scalping three wickets for 20 runs in his four overs, getting the big wickets of Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder may not always get the spotlight, but he has completely transformed Gujarat’s campaign ever since being included in the team from the seventh match onwards against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
Holder announced his arrival in style, scoring a valuable 23* (10) and getting the big wicket of Virat Kohli, albeit in a losing cause, in his first game of the season. However, his consistent bowling performances in the last four matches have helped GT get on a winning run, which has now catapulted them to the top of the points table with one foot firmly in the playoffs.
Gujarat's mid-season turnaround
From scoring crucial runs in the death overs to taking wickets of the top batters and pulling off sensational boundary catches, Holder has done it all to breathe life back into GT’s faltering campaign. His form coincided with Gujarat making the bold decision of benching Prasidh Krishna from their eighth game onwards against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Ever since then, Holder won two back-to-back Player of the Match awards, with the first one coming against RCB, where he scalped 2/29 in four overs and also took three catches in the field, along with scoring 12 (10). He later scalped 4/24 in four overs to stop Punjab Kings’ dangerous batting line-up at 163/9 and became the architect of their four-wicket win.
Holder's consistency gives GT the perfect balance
The right-arm seamer followed it up with a remarkable performance of 3/12 in 2.3 overs against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and scalped another three-wicket haul against SRH. In just six matches, Holder has now scalped 13 wickets at an average of 10.92 and an economy of 6.35.
He has also contributed with 58 runs lower down the order from five innings and can be entrusted to complete tense chases in the death overs. All in all, Holder’s inclusion in GT has changed their fortunes, and the Shubman Gill-led side now has a real shot at winning their second trophy.
Can talisman Holder guide GT to second title?
At the start of the season, Gujarat Titans were still searching for the right combination. Now, with Holder firing on all cylinders and other players also rising to the occasion, they're suddenly one of the most complete teams in the competition.
The playoffs are now within touching distance, and if Gujarat go on to lift their second IPL trophy, Jason Holder’s mid-season arrival may well be remembered as the turning point that changed everything.
